Michael Johnson Recognized as NAIA Men's Basketball Player of the Week

One day after earning Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, Culver-Stockton College guard Michael Johnson was named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his play Dec. 25-31.

Johnson, a 6-foot junior from Jackson, MI. (Jackson HS / Lansing CC), averaged 36 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games against two top 10 NAIA Division II opponents at Briar Cliff Holiday Classic. On Dec. 29 against No. 5 Briar Cliff (Iowa), Johnson recorded career highs in points (35) and rebounds (11), then on Saturday against No. 10 Morningside (Iowa) he set another career high in points with 37 markers. In the two games, Johnson shot 54.3 percent from the field, including 46.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. He also had a blocked shot and three steals in the two games.

In his first season with the Wildcats, Johnson is averaging 24.5 points per game, which ranks first in the Heart and fourth in the NAIA. He has had three games of 30 or more points this season and nine games of 20 or more points. In addition, Johnson is averaging 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He is shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from the 3-point stripe.
