Jacquemin Travels Outside Classroom to Learn More About Major

A Culver-Stockton athletic training major joined students from across the country to learn more about her major outside the classroom. Junior, Ryinne Jacquemin, attended the National Athletic Trainers Association's (NATA) iLead Conference in Grapevine, Tex. Jacquemin was able to attend the conference after winning a scholarship in December; she was chosen from numerous applicants in every athletic training education program in Missouri.

Their were multiple speakers at the conference, but no overall theme. "Each speaker that came to the podium spoke on something completely different, but extremely relevant to the world of athletic training," says Jacquemin. They discussed ethics in the workplace, opportunities after graduating, standardized patients and more.

Jacquemin said two speeches stood out from the rest. The first was given by the president of NATA and focused on networking, the importance of it, how to do it, what to say and what to avoid saying. After the presentation Jacquemin introduced herself to NATA's president, and was told to e-mail him about a potential job.

The other stand-out speech was by the former President of the Board of Certification, she focused on the importance of ignorning "traditional vs. non-traditional" work settings. Not only was she fun and comical, but she proved a person could be dedicated to a job they love and still have a social life. The lesson she wanted students to take away from the conference was don't get burnt out, but burn in. "I learned so much that I never knew and am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to go to this conference," said Jacquemin.
