Ethan Thomas selected to perform with elite ensemble

Ethan Thomas, Music Education major from Florissant, MO, was one of two Culver-Stockton students selected to perform with the All-Collegiate Jazz Ensemble during the Missouri Music Educations Association (MMEA) conference Jan. 24, 2014, held in Osage Beach, Mo. Only 18 musicians in the state of Missouri were selected to perform with this ensemble. Thomas played the trombone for this performance.

To audition, students were asked to record and submit contrasting jazz pieces, as well as two examples of improvisation. A panel of judges then listened to the submissions without knowing the name or school of the musicians, selecting the most deserving to perform with the All-Collegiate Jazz Ensemble.

"It is an enormous honor that two Culver-Stockton students were selected for a statewide ensemble of 18," said Dr. Carol Mathieson, professor of music at Culver-Stockton.
