Culver-Stockton student Patrick Wilson wins chance to open for Kenny Chesney

Patrick Wilson, senior musical education major from St. Peters, Mo., beat out 4000 contestants to win the Missouri State Fair Idol contest. In taking first place in this competition, Wilson won a cash prize and the opportunity to open for Kenny Chesney in the Grandstand at the 2014 Missouri State Fair. He also gets to record an original song which will be played on Midwest country radio stations.

The Missouri Idol contest was held at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Mo., Aug. 8-18, 2013. The contest consisted of three rounds, with five making it to the finals. Wilson performed four songs in the final round, including "Walk this way," "She's Country," "Friends in Low Places" and "Hard to Handle."

In addition to his singing, Wilson also dances and plays piano and guitar. Wilson has six years of experience performing at Six Flags in St. Louis in the saloon show, as well as the hip-hop show. Wilson will graduate from Culver-Stockton in the spring of 2014 with his degree in music education. He plans on completing an internship in the summer of 2014 at Nashville's WSIX country radio station.
