Cullen Smith Named Heart Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Culver-Stockton College forward Cullen Smith was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his play in two conference games during the week of Jan. 1-7. It is the second straight week a Wildcat has been honored with the weekly honor. Mike Johnson was recognized last week.

Smith, a 6-foot-7 junior from Lansing, MI. (Holt HS / Lansing CC), recorded double-doubles in each game last week, including scoring a career-high 38 points and pulling down 12 rebounds as the Wildcats ended a 30-game conference victory drought with a 112-101 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.). Earlier in the week, Smith registered a career-high 18 rebounds and scored 15 points in a 96-79 loss to Clarke (Iowa). He shot 68 percent (17-25) from the field and 90.5 percent (19-21) from the free throw line during the week, averaging 26.5 points and 15 rebounds per game.

In 16 games this season, Smith is averaging 10.6 points and a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game. He is shooting 54.8 percent from the field and has recorded a team-best 20 blocked shots.

The Wildcats (4-12) return to action Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 12-ranked Central Methodist University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game in Fayette, Mo. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
