Chelsea Edmondson Named Scholar-Athlete by NAIA

Two Culver-Stockton College student-athletes have been named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Track and Field Scholar-Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Chelsea Edmondson was one those students honored.

Edmondson, junior from Kahoka, Mo. (Clark County HS), is an athletic training major at Culver-Stockton. She competes in several events, including shot put, discus, weight throw, hammer throw, and javelin. During the 2014 season, Edmondson placed first in the javelin with a throw of 91 feet, 5 inches during the Millikin (Ill.) Big Blue Invitational. She also recorded personal best of 108 feet in the hammer throw at the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Outdoor Championships.

Buchler, a senior from Waterford, Mich. (Genesee HS / Albion College), is an accounting major. He competes in the 400-meter dash and the long jump for the Wildcats. During the HAAC Outdoor Championships, Buchler earned All-HAAC honors in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 3 inches, garnering him third place. Earlier in the season, Bucher placed fourth during the HAAC Indoor Championships with a jump of 21 feet, 4 inches. In the 400, Bucher turned in his season-best of 51.91 seconds during the HAAC Outdoor event.

Three-hundred thirty-seven women were named recipients of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete honor on the women's side, while two-hundred thirty-three men were hailed on the men's side. Student-athletes must have a junior or senior academic standing and maintain a minimum cumulative grade- point-average of 3.50. Transfer student-athletes must attend the nominating institution for one full year before being eligible.
