Competitors also had to come to campus and complete two interview with faculty and staff, as well as submit an essay. This year's competition was especially fierce. Fifty candidates competed, with an average GPA of 3.87 (on a 4.0 scale) and an average ACT score of 27.

"The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for any student that would be eligible to compete. All competitors, regardless of whether they are Pillars recipients, will gain admission into our unique Honors program which is a spectacular educational opportunity," says Misty McBee, director of admission.

May plans on studying athletic training.
