Ashlyn May Competes In Culver-Stockon's Full-Tuition Scholarship

Ashlyn May, senior high school student from Liberty Community High School competed in Culver-Stockton College's full-tuition Pillars of Excellence Scholarship. Though May did not win the full-tuition scholarship, she was awarded the Trustee's Scholarship, worth $44,000. May plans on studying athletic training.

The Pillars for Excellence scholarship competiton is high-ability students. Strict academic standards are required to even compete for the scholarship. Students must apply and be admitted to Culver-Stockton, have a minimum composite score of 26 on the ACT or an equivalent SAT score, and they must have a minimum 3.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Students were also required to visit campus to complete two interviews with staff and/or faculty, as well as submit an essay. This year's competiton was especially fierce. Fifty candidates competed this year, with an average GPA of 3.87 (on a 4.0 scale) and an average ACT score of 27.

"The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for any student that would be eligible to compete. All competitors, regardless of whether they are Pillars recipients, will gain admission into our unique Honors program which is a spectacular educational opportunity," says Misty McBee, director of admission.

All Pillars for Excellence competitors will be honored at a luncheon, held Saturday, March 16 in Meaders Dining Room at Culver-Stockton.

Culver-Stockton is a four year residential college, located in Canton, Mo. C-SC is in affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
