Abigail Mikesell Earns Conference Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Culver-Stockton College women's soccer player Abigail Mikesell has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her play in victories over Saint Ambrose (Iowa) and Graceland (Iowa) last week.

Mikesell, a 5-foot-9 freshman goalkeeper from Olathe, Kan. 66062 (Spring Hill HS), allowed one goal and made 13 saves in victories over Saint Ambrose and Graceland. She recorded her fourth shutout of the year and made seven saves in the Wildcats' 2-0 victory at Saint Ambrose Sept. 16. Then, in the conference opener against Graceland, Mikesell stopped six shots on goal to lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory, improving the Wildcats to 4-1-1 overall.

For the season, Mikesell leads the Heart with a 0.47 goals against average and four shutouts in 580 minutes of game action. She has allowed three goals in six games, has made 27 saves overall, ranking seventh in the Heart, and is averaging 4.50 saves per game, which ranks fifth in the Heart.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a non-conference game Wednesday, Sept. 23, at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., starting at 5 p.m. C-SC returns home Saturday, Sept. 26, to battle Baker University (Kan.) in a Heart matchup. Game time is schedu,led for 1 p.m. at NX Level Field.
